Go geocaching

A friend has just told me about this, it is something that I was not aware of:-

Geocaching is an outdoor activity that the whole family can get involved in; all you need is a pen and a smart phone or similar device.

Download the free app and get treasure hunting.

There are hundreds of locations worldwide.

The app will direct you to the ‘treasure’ : Sometimes there will be a small gift to discover, such as a key ring fob, button, marble or a sticker, other times the canister will contain a piece of paper for you to write your name and the date you found it, you can also leave your details on the app,. if desired. If you find a souvenir then leave another in it’s place for the next geocaches (it pays to have a few items in your pocket before setting off).

Geocaching is a great activity to get involved in during the school holidays, you could also follow one during a bike ride.

Geocaching is safe during the covid 19 threat as it can be undertaken while social distancing from others..

There are loads of websites explaining more about geocaching, even the National Trust have some on their grounds.

What’s not to love about this fun activity?

I would like to thank Sarah Knight for providing the photos used in this post.

As always questions, comments and topic suggestions are welcome.

Until next time.

Karen

  1. Its such fun, you can get quite excited when you find one, and of course disappointed if you cant located it. We are going back to find one in Instow that beat us the first time round, but we will not be defeated !
There are thousands of them around and you can even set your own. It’s a great bit of fun in the fresh air and it’s free, and of course socially distancing to. Some times its nice to give your bike ride/walk a purpose and a pit stop.

  2. We haven’t done this but seen a bit about it online, I think for an outdoor activity to do during lockdown we need to give it a go. Thank you for sharing.

  3. My husband loved geocaching I didn’t realise there were some on National Trust properties. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next time

    1. I found out about the National Trust having geocaching while researching the subject on line, I will be back with new posts to link up next time, Jade

  4. we are big fans of that here. It’s something we first discovered through the Girl Scouts but in the summer of isolation where outdoorsy stuff has become more popular this seems to have really taken off #anythinggoes

  5. Mine loves geocaching! Of course, most little ones adore hunting for treasure don’t they šŸ™‚ I love how it’s also a fab way of getting them to keep their eyes open and take in their surroundings. Thank you for joining us for the #dreamteamlinky Karen.

  6. We love geocaching!
I was disappointed to find that there were not that many in my area/neighbourhood that we could easily access. Now that we can travel around the city, I am hoping to be able to take the kids and find more. #KCACOLS

  7. Definitely on our summer bucket list but haven’t been able to persuade the children to go out yet as the weather hasn’t been too good šŸ™ Thanks for linking up with #stayclassymama

  8. We do this, it’s a lot of fun. We have even done it in France. It’s a great way to find things and also a learning tool #stayclassymama sorry it’s late, the last two weeks have been crazy here…
