Walker book review

Walker books sent the following children’s books for me to review:

WHERE IS LITTLE FISH

The first thing that struct me about this delightful board book is the quality. It has flaps for children to lift when trying to find Little fish.

I have come across lift the flap books before, usually the flaps are so flimsy that children can easily rip them off.

When I was working as a registered child minder I actually used to keep such books on a shelf out of the children’s reach because they were forever damaging the books by tearing off the flaps.(this was not a deliberate act of vandalism, it was because the flaps weren’t strong enough  to stand up to the rough handling of the children).

When children are lifting the flaps while searching for Little fish they are introduced to many other creatures who live in the sea.

Throughout the book has wonderful bright illustrations that children of all ages will find appealing.

I would recommend this book to parents and carers  because of the hard wearing quality of the materials used meaning that it will be treasured  for a long time.

Where is little fish is written by Lucy Cousins, published by Walker books and retails for £5.99. It is recommended for age 3 years upwards.

JULIAN IS A MERMAID

This is a hardback picture book  written  by Jessica Love . It is being released to co-inside with London pride. The book tells the tale of Julian who wants to become a mermaid – will his Nana agree to this as Julian is a boy? Of course she does, in fact she helps him with the transformation.

The book is suggested for children aged 4 plus years. It would be an asset to any child having turmoil with their gender  as we live in a stereo-typical world .

I love this book.

Julian is a mermaid is published by Walker books and retails at £11.99

Disclosure: I was sent these books for the purpose of the review but all opinions are my own.

As always questions/comments are welcome and please share on social media if you think others would benefit from reading this.

Until next time.

  2. #thesatsesh i want to be a mermaid and love the idea of learning about non stigmatised ideals. I also love a book with a pop out or flap and will race my son to these pages haha

  4. I know what you mean about lift the flap books, they need to be pretty sturdy to stand up to a toddler. It’s such a shame when they make them really flimsy as all youngsters love lift the flap books. I love the bright illustrations in this one. Thank you for joining the #FamilyFunLinky x

  5. I just got a paperback copy of Julian last week – it’s beautifully illustrated! And we love Lucy Cousins books though I’ve never seen this one with it’s moving parts! I’ll need to have a look out for it. Thanks for linking up #KLTR
