7 Healthy Snacks for Children Health – Guest Blog

As parents, it is only normal that we are interested in providing the best for our children. This is especially valid when it comes to food, as kids are growing individuals and they need nutritious meals to develop properly. As we live in the age of technology, it should come as no surprise that even our children have become less active and thus more prone to obesity.

The snacks that are available on the market are filled with additives and preservatives, causing a wide range of problems. Below, you will find 7 healthy snacks for children’s health, easy to make and delicious to taste.

#1 Cheese

Unless your kid is lactose intolerant, cheese can represent an excellent snack, delivering an adequate quantity of healthy proteins. You can even turn the preparation of this snack into a fun game, using a cookie cutter to make all sort of shapes.

#2 Yoghurt

The truth is that kids love yogurt. And it is great to have a healthy snack that your kid likes. This snack delivers a good quantity of calcium, allowing the bones to grow strong. It is recommended that you purchase low-fat, plain yogurt and that you add seasonal fruits to it, instead of purchasing yogurt with fruits already in it.

As an alternative, during summer, you can prepare some frozen yogurt with fruits. Your kids are going to love this cool treat, which tastes better than any store-bought product.

#3 Smoothies

Even if smoothies are a popular choice among adults, this does not mean kids do not love them. You can prepare age-appropriate smoothies using fruits that are in season and mixing them with low-fat yogurt or milk. This is a great way to serve fruits to kids who are not so much into them. Plus, they will love their exciting colors and fun straws to sip their drink through.

#4 Peanut butter

This might sound like a cliché, but peanut butter is an incredibly healthy snack to offer to your kids. Moreover, it represents a good source of proteins, which are necessary for proper muscle functioning. However, instead of going for the classic peanut butter & jelly sandwich, you can try using apple slices instead of bread.

Once again, this is a great way to convince kids to eat apples, especially if they are not too fond of them. As an alternative to the apple slices, you can consider rice cakes or, why not, waffles.

#5 Whole grain cereal

If you were to read the latest lifestyle news, you would discover that whole grain cereals are recommended for both children and adults. This healthy snack can deliver an adequate intake of calcium and fiber, not to mention vitamins. It is recommended that you serve this cereal with milk or season fruits.

#6 Rainbow fruit skewers

Kids love colors more than anything else, and they will love rainbow fruit skewers. In order to re-create the colors of the rainbow, you will require the following fruits: raspberries, strawberries, tangerines, mango, pineapple, kiwi, grapes (red & green) and blueberries. These fruit skewers are packed with vitamins, so you do not have to worry about not being a healthy snack. Moreover, this snack can be given to kids who suffer from gluten intolerance, as it is 100% gluten-free.

#7 Popcorn

Even if you are not going to the movies, popcorn is still a great snack and one that is quite healthy. Keep in mind that, when it comes to the homemade popcorn, you can control the amount of salt/sugar that you put into it. This is the kind of snack that is recommended for all seasons, being both quick and easy to make. Plus, all kids enjoy popcorn (you can decide on the allowed quantity).

Final verdict:

As you have seen, many of them contain fruits, while others are re-interpretations of traditional recipes. These are the healthy snacks we have suggested for your kids. In the end, what matters is that you choose a snack that is healthy, as you want to protect your kids from both junk and fast food. Healthy snacks can be used to prevent obesity and stimulate the metabolism in-between meals, so do not hesitate to give them a try.

  4. Hi there, I do know if you steam these there will be air bubbles, so that is quite usual. However, if you do in the oven, you can use a skewer and run it through the mixture when it is in the ramekins to try and release some of the air. Just run the skewer slowly up and down and see if that helps!
