This is a true story:-
I never believed in ghosts or ‘things that go bump in the night’ until we moved into a property which was almost 100 years old.
It started on the day we moved in. The carpet on the upstairs landing had some swear words written in the carpet pile which I simply got rid of by sweeping my hand across the pile; we didn’t think much about it at first and even spoke to our boys about using such language. ( they all deigned knowing what we were talking about), so it was forgotten until I went upstairs again and the words were back.
In the bathroom there was an old style of nail ( similar to a horse shoe nail) keeping the window locked, which my husband removed allowing the window to be opened.
That night when I used the bathroom and tried to open the small window, it was locked again with the same nail. Getting back into bed I asked my husband why he had decided to put the nail back in and he told me that he hadn’t and had disposed of the nail in question!
As the days past other things started to unfold, When I was vacuuming the upstairs landing the temperature would drop and I could sense that someone ( or something) was watching me. I never saw anything, which was just as well as I don’t think that I could have carried on living there if I had.
The light in my eldest son’s bedroom was on every time I walked past and I kept telling him to turn it off when he went out, he insisted that he always turned it off, He also said that things were being moved in his room and blamed his younger brothers,. Who all denied going into his room
The scariest event was one evening when my husband and I were watching television in the living room which was directly under the eldest son’s room, All the children were out at friend’s houses, but we heard footsteps walking along the floor of the room above. My husband went upstairs to investigate and came back down saying there was nobody there, but the light was on and it wasn’t on earlier because he had made a point in
checking.
One day when I returned home from a shopping trip I tried to open the back door and it felt as though someone was holding it shut from the inside. I knew that there was no one at home as the children were at school and my husband at work. As my arms were getting tired holding the heavy bags I said aloud \” Come on ghost. let me in” and the door flew open!
I did some investigation into the history of the house and discovered that the vicar of the church that was next door had been murdered on the land where our house now stood, The property to the other side (semi detached to ours) was also once apart of our house I learned. On speaking to the neighbours they told us that they had similar happenings going on in their rooms,
Strangely everyone who visited the house always said that it had a lovely atmosphere, but they didn’t know about our house guest who was living rent free!
We never felt threatened by whatever it was that was causing these odd events and no longer live in that property.
I often wonder if the new house owner has discovered more.
Happy Halloween!
As always questions and comments are welcome.
Until next time.

Ha!thanks for leaving your experience, Jacqui
Very creepy! You were brave to take it in stride.
Thanks, Michele
Oh my word, the hairs on the back of my neck are standing up. I couldn’t live in a haunted house. Great stories though. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS.
I didn’t feel threatened by it at all and as I said the house had a lovely feeling about it, thanks for taking the time to read and leave the comments
I grew up in an old house and we always felt a presence in the place but nothing like your actual physical experiences. You were so brave, I would probably freak out! “Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS.”
Thanks for your kind words and comments, Dana
Well that’s a creepy story – I don’t know how long I would be able to take living in a haunted house. Great Halloween post!

Thanks, Jessica
I never noticed anything but my ex and her daughter swore up and down that our old house had an unseen extra person living there. I think that maybe some people are just more tuned into that sort of thing. I’d never discount the possibility #KCACOLS
That’s interesting, thanks for telling me, Jeremy
I lived in a house with a ghost – both my flatmate and I felt it there and it was weeks after moving in when we discussed it. She opened with “I don’t want you to laugh at me but I think there’s a ghost here”. We both never say it but she was sure it was an old lady and I thought it was an old man. You would feel it behind you (I would always think it was my flatmate had come in and I’d turn around to say something to her and there was nothing there, or she wasn’t even home. My flatmate said the cat would always stop and look exactly where it was too. The weird thing was, it was never scary. It was just a presence. And then after about 6 weeks, it disappeared (at the same time for both of us). So weird.
As for your story, your ghost did things. I would have to ask the new owners….#KCACOLS
Glad it’s not just me, Lydia!
That is a freaky story X #kcacols
It is, thanks for stopping by
How very strange! I’m not sure I’d have lasted long there. #KCACOLS
Ha! thanks for stopping by
Oh my goodness, OH MY GOODNESS!!! Karen!!! That is pretty scary stuff. I wouldn’t have lasted 1 night in that house. How long did you live there for? Thank you for joining us for #mischiefandmemories x
We lived there for 14 years, but never felt threatened, Annette
I’ve had several spooky experiences in our own home and in others. One time on holiday I was having a bath when the taps in the sink turned on and there was a sitting room that none of us wanted to go in becasue it had a strange aura. Thanks for linking up with #MischiefandMemories
That sounds really scary, Laura, I would have leaped out of the bath and given ‘the visitor’ a bigger fright!
