A sunny November morning visiting Luke

As the weather was chilly, but bright and beautiful for mid November I went to visit a friend’s horse.

Once I was wrapped up warmly I gave Luke the apple I had brought from home,  he happily munched it cleverly spitting out the core.

I then gave him a few carrots.

Being close to Luke, or any horse, is like therapy for me as I used to ride regularly before suffering a stroke and have always had a love of horses.

Luke is amazing because unlike Teddy the horse that I ride at the Calvert rtust, Exmoor, he has had no special training to accept a wheelchair beside him  ( I often wonder if he thinks that I am strange to be sitting down while offering him treats, he doesn’t seem to mind- food is food however it is given, I suppose!).

Chelle, Luke’s owner is great because she lets me hold him on his leading rein by myself  making me feel as though I have control over such a large beast, Luke is so good he would most likely stand beside me without being held.

Luke always looks great, today he was looking exceptionally smart as he was supporting a new trace clip ( some horses are clipped during the winter months to prevent overheating from their thick coats, this is especially important if they are ridden at speed).

After posing for a few photos with myself and his owner, Luke was taken back to his stable and I was pushed back to my car where my husband was waiting.

I would like to thank my sister, Kim Watts for being my personal photographer and Michelle Clayton for sharing her horse with me for an hour.

As always questions/comments are welcome.

Until next time.

  1. How lovely and what a lovey horse and as you’ve said so well behaved . It’s obvious you really enjoyed your time with him. Chelle is really kind to share Luke with you and lovely photos from Kim as usual. Another brilliant blog Karen .

  2. #thesatsesh I’m scared of them lol, they’re like massive dogs with teeth as big as my head. I can see why people enjoy them though and I love that he made you feel joyful.

  3. What a fantastic horse and so chilled out, horses do have such a peaceful grace about them #Blogstravaganza

  4. Oh how beautiful, aren’t animals just amazing, they make us feel so much better just by being near them. Thanks for sharing this post with us for #AbloggingGoodTime

  5. He’s a beautiful big beast! I would love to get into horse riding. It was never something I did as a child (except one or two short pony rides), but my son went riding quite regularly with his pre-school for a while and he used to love it. It would be fab to get him back into it, though we need to find the right place for his needs as well as our budget… Thanks so much for linking up with #KCACOLS, hope you come back again next time x

  6. Luke is such a stunning horse, I can see how spending time with him is such good therapy. I’ve been dreaming of riding again lately, I think it’s because I love the Autumn and getting outside on bright, cold days. Thank you for sharing with us #AdventureCalling
