I have noticed a few parents asking about activities for their young children on social media this week, these are my ideas/suggestions:_
Anew born baby will spend a good percentage of the day asleep (if you are lucky).
When he is awake talk to him as much as possible. as this is how he will learn to talk more here
Your baby will also enjoy singing to him and playing games like this little piggy and round and round the garden, as your child gets older you can sing together.
my favourite children’s songs here
If the weather is fine take your baby out for a walk, the fresh air and change of scenery will be beneficial to both of you.
When I was a registered child minder I frequently worked with babies more here
When your child is able to sit up she will enjoy you sitting on the floor beside her to play with building blocks and stacking toys, talk about the shapes and colours while you play.
Treasure baskets are fantastic for a sitting baby more here
Children are never too young to enjoy a book. in my opinion my favourite books here
Finger paints are always popular with toddlers( make sure they don’t eat too much) as are chubby crayons for mark making’
Find out about local parent and baby groups or toddler groups, benefits here
As your child grows older keeping them entertained with activities is easier as they are able to understand and do more.
As always questions and comments are welcome.
Until next time.

Goodness me. I forgot all that tactile stuff. Ha! Gorgoues fun when they’re little #MischiefandMemories…(It really did spark a memory for me!)
they seem to be easier to entertain when they are tiny, don’t they. Lydia?
Some great ideas here! Messy play is by far the best! My kids love finger paints! #KCACOLS
Thanks for your comments, Jacqui
Finger paints canbe a bit messy – make sure it’s cleanable paint! #kcacols
Yes, it can be messy, it’s worth it for the play and learning, in my opinion
I loved the baby stage, we walked for miles just enjoying the fresh air and talking about what we could see. I actually really miss it, now my pre-schooler either runs at 100 miles an hour or point blank refuses to walk! So much easier in the pram pushing days!

Definitely Karen! I started reading to mine when she was a couple of days old. It could be a coincidence but she’s now a bookworm. We were also a big fan of tactile/ messy play. #mischiefandmemories x
Glad to hear that you agree with me ,Annette
You do such an amazing job as a childminder and come up with some great activities 🙂 #kcacols
Thank you, unfortunately I am not not working as a child minder anymore, since ill health forced me to give it up
I was lucky that there were sure start centres around when my eldest was born so we had plenty of social and play opportunities. Sadly there was nothing available when my youngest was born. Thanks for linking up with #MischiefAndMemories
Sure start was great, wasn’t it, Laura?
It’s amazing the difference that shapes and colours make to children from a young age. There is so much learning in just that. Great list and tips here. Thanks so much for joining us at #KCACOLS xx
Absolutely, Becky, thanks for letting me join in with your linky party
What a great list! I wish I had a baby again now to do it all over again! Now that my children are bigger, I have to make do with selling lovely books for babies and toddlers! (and big kids too!)
#KCACOLS
Thanks, I feel the same
Singing is such a key part of speech development. But just doing anything with babies is positive they just learn all the time. #kcacols
Absolutely, Rachel, thanks for stopping by with your comment
Our toddler grandchild just can’t seem to spend enough time outdoors, regardless of the weather. Thanks for sharing with #pocolo
