Childhood disappointments

Another fun post today.

When I was a child I remember my slightly older cousin telling me that she had stayed up to “see in the new year.”

The first time that I saw in the new year,  I was so disappointed as I didn’t see anything!

I presumed that  because my cousin had stayed up really late to do this, something amazing was to be seen, why would she bother otherwise?

Another disappointment was when I went with a friend and her mum to see princess Ann drive past,  I was expecting to see a beautiful princess like the ones described in my fairy tale books.

After waiting for what seemed ages  I saw a plain, stern looking woman  sitting in the back seat of a car. I remember thinking to myself, Well she’s not a princess, at all.

Every year on my birthday  I would make the same wish as I blew out the candles on my cake; that I could have my own horse, or pony. Even though I never told anyone what I wished for, it never happened?

Of course other disappointments were finding out the truth about Santa and the tooth fairy, although I still loved believing in them with my own children when they were young.

Please share your childhood disappointments.

As always questions/comments are welcome, I love reading them.

Until next time.

Karen

  1. Lovely post, I can remember getting Santa actually coming into my house with presents and being amazed by it, was so disappointed when I realised it was my brother dressed up as Santa ( I eventually took note of his false tooth when he smiled ) What a disappointed but nice of my brother to dress up for me really.

  2. I am still a bit sad that I never got a mr Frosty for Christmas despite putting it on my list every year. I was going to rebel as a grown up and buy myself one but everyone told me they’re actually rubbish, so maybe my parents had a point !!#globalblogging

  3. As young kids, we had healthy appetites. One day, we go to the pediatrician and she tells our mom that we are only allowed dessert two times a year: Christmas and Easter. Now that was a disappointment, a blow, and a double whammy, as we are Jewish? WT… #mixitup xo

  4. When I realised Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan weren’t married in real life. I was only 11 but it hurt so deep (lol) x #DreamTeam

  5. This is going to sound like a strange one but I always wanted a really nice lunchbox to bring with me to school like the other girls but I never had one. My mum always wrapped my sandwiches in cling film and that was it. So I have made sure that my daughter has a lovely one to take in her schoolbag each day, right now it is a Frozen one because she is obsessed with Elsa! #dreamteam

  6. My eldest’s daycare met Prince Charles and they were all very disappointed he was just a guy in a suit and didn’t wear a crown….those Royals need to up their game 😉 #KCACOLS

  7. Haha! The Princess Ann bit made me laugh! Although the Princesses of our children’s generation, Princess Kate and Princess Meghan, are a bit more Disney-fied! I still believe in Santa and the tooth-fairy anyway so no disappointment there!!!! #KCACOLS

  8. aww… yeah those ones stick to the memory, don’t they? yeah, I agree with you, ringing in the new year really is bit of a hype – one of those disappointments reserved for adults who expect miracles as soon as the new year starts 🙂

  9. I hear you with the Princess, I went to see the Queen when I was little and was so disappointed!
Would it be OK if I did a blog post like this with my own disappointments? #KCACOLS
