Now that the weather may not be favourable for getting children outside to let off steam and burn off some energy; encouraging them to get involved in some action songs indoors, in the warm could be a good alternative.
These are some of my favourites:-
I’m a little teaspot:
This is great as it’s quite short meaning that even young children will be able to member the words and copy an adult doing the actions.
Jack and Jill:
Again. the youngest of children will enjoy this, as most toddlers will be familiar with the nursery rhyme.
Make it more energenic by changing the words to ran up the hill, jumped up the hill, etc.
5 little speckled frogs:
I learned this with the children at a toddler group we used to attend.
Here we go round the mulberry bush:
Children can make up their own verses to add to this one.
5 ittle monkies:
I used to sing this one to my grandson, Kyle when he sat on my lap when I was being pushed in my wheelchair, he sang his own version to his baby sister a few years later.
Row, row, row your boat:
I have done this one with the smallest of babies on my lap, by simply swaying from side to side and even helped a child to join in at a group I was volunteering at since stroke, He didn’t have a partner so held onto my one working hand while I was sat in my wheelchair.
More of my favourite children’s songs here
You could also just put the radio on and have a good dance or jump around to that!
Please feel free to add to this list.
As always questions and comments are welcome.
Until next time.
