Earlier this week I went into a well known High street store; the first aisle that I came across was full of Halloween costumes, the next one was overflowing with Christmas decorations, cards and paper. It is only the middle of September!
This got me thinking about any children who were taken into the store; would they think that it was both Halloween and Christmas next week?
I remember many years ago when my eldest son was around 3 and a half we went into a D.I.Y. shop towards the end of October and an assistant was giving ‘visit Santa’ stickers to the children,.
My son became very excited thinking that Santa would be coming to our house soon; when we hadn’t even had bonfire night yet.
I am not totally against shops putting out Christmas stock early as I tend to shop all year round for the big day, often picking up gifts in the sales whenever possible and I buy a few bits each week from mid November on wards to spread the cost.
My youngest son was very excited as he was approaching his second birthday, he was the youngest of 4 and had been taking about his special day with his brothers for some time.
Every morning when he woke up he would ask “Is it my birthday today?” It wasn’t.
After what must have seemed like an age to him, he woke up and we said, ” Happy birthday love” “Is it my birthday today?” he asked with glee. ( It was as if he had waited so long for the day to arrive that he had forgotten about it) .
Advent calendars help children to gain a concept of how long it is to Christmas.
But with so many households putting up trees and other decorations before the beginning of December even it has to be confusing to a child and when the shops put away the Christmas stock out come the Easter eggs!
Please share any thoughts by leaving a comment, which I love reading.
As always any questions will be answered to the best of my knowledge
I am always looking for topic suggestions and requests also.
Until next time.

I’m not sure abut children, but I get confused with what is happening when and as I get older they all seem to arrive so much earlier x

Great topic – personally I find it quite unsettling the way seasonal events slowly creep in earlier and earlier – it ruins a lot of the fun and when Xmas comes around, we’re already over saturated and sick of the decoration, music, and sweets. Such a shame really… #globalblogging
Its ridiculous how early they put things in the shops these days! And as you say, as soon as they have finished with the commercialization of one holiday, they move straight onto the next. I’m dreading the day when my daughter realizes what it all is … which will likely be next year, eeek! #TwinklyTuesday
Shops don’t allow us to shop for the season we are living in, do they Shelley? In winter the clothes stores are full of t shirts and woolly jumpers in the summer, no wonder we are so confused! Thanks for sharing tour thoughts
I do wish shops would let one event pass before starting on the next. It’s annoying to see Halloween and Christmas stuff on the shelves next to each other, over a month before Halloween. I can see why this would be confusing for kids.

One month in advance is more than enough time…In my area, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas all seem to be lumped together!
Yep – our shops have moved it to September, and I’ve started recieving xmas decoration emails. It’s ridiculous. WAAAAAY to early! #Stayclassymama
I hadn’t even thought of it that way! To be honest, Christmas ‘things’ have been appearing in shops early September for years, so I assume my daughter just thinks it’s normal now. It really does seem like everything is dumped together! By the time Christmas is over (which will be in a flash), they will be restocking the shelves with Valentine’s Day and Easter goodies… stop the roundabout, I want to get off! 😉 Sim x #PoCoLo
Kids have no idea on time. Zach (aged 3) says everyhting happened ‘yesterday’ whether it was only a day or even a year ago! Thanks for linking up with #stayclassymama
