A light earthed post for today!
From time to time children like to make things up or exaggerate things to make them sound more exciting. This is not the same as telling lies, just having a healthy imagination.
Some examples of children’s tales that I have heard are:-
When I was working as a child minder one of the children went on a visit to the beach with her school. On returning to my setting during the school holidays, she told us all that on the beach she had seen, ” a whale, a shark and a dolphin!”
This same girl when on a walk through the woods with myself said that she had peeped under a bush and seen ” some fairies and elves having a tea party.” My son who was a little older told her that she hadn’t seen this and that she was telling fibs. She became upset and insisted that she had indeed seen them, I intervened by saying that maybe she had seen them and my son had scared them away, she smiled and agreed this is what had happened.
Another boy told me that he had thrown his shoes out of his bedroom window into the woods, when I asked if his mum had retrieved them from the woods, because he was wearing them, he replied, “They are magic shoes that walked themselves back to my room!”
My favourite children’s tale is when two children were talking about getting married. The girl said to the boy ” When we grow up you have to marry me.” his reply was ” No I don’t want to marry you.”
” You have to marry someone, so it might as well be me, ” she insisted.
” I don’t have to get married if I don’t want to. my mum isn’t married” he then told her that he knew about weddings as he had recently been to his aunties. Desperate not to lose the argument the girl came back with. “Well I know more about prisons than you do!”
Several years on I still haven’t worked out what she meant by this and how she knew anything about prisons.
Please share any children’s tales with me.
As always questions, comments and topic suggestions are welcome.
Until next time.

Kids have wild imaginations. They can sure weave a tale! #mixtiup
That last one is so funny! I remember one Christmas Eve as a child, I was absolutely certain I saw Rudolph’s nose glowing in my back garden! Knowing Father Christmas was right there, I ran back to bed and went to sleep. #MixItUp
Out of the mouths of babes. I think the tales children tell are so funny.

Oh I love children’s tales. My daughter told me that having children isn’t a choice. it’s just something that happens when two people love each other. Couldn’t fault her on that, but she couldn’t understand why some people didn’t. One for when she is older. Thanks again for linking up with #KidsandKreativity, hope you come back next time.
