Fremington ( where I live) is a village situated around 3 miles from Barnstaple, North Devon.
Recently I have noticed several scarecrows appearing in random places around our village.
The idea is to cheer everyone one up during the lock down; they have certainly put a smile on the faces of myself and my husband.
This got me thinking that other communities could follow our lead, it would be great to get children involved in designing and making a scarecrow as a fun way of killing some time. It is also something for children to look out for during their daily walk, they could even have a competition with siblings or friends on facetime to see who has spotted the most scarecrows.
The scarecrows in Fremington have been made using a variety of different materials: From old clothes stuffed with towels, straw and newspaper to a wet suit filled with a down pipe and expanding foam and even an old sofa!
Thanks to the Facebook members of this community group for allowing me to use their photos ( sorry I couldn’t use them all ).
Keep up the good work.
As always questions and comments are welcome.
Until next time.

Lovely idea, let’s hope other areas do the same..I loved them all but the one that made me smile the most was the one with the paper plate head which was obviously drawn by a young child.
Thanks, Pearl, in fact, I have received an email from a lady living in the next village, Bickington and they are going to do the same
What a fun and cute idea. I bet when families are out walking, it is lots of fun for the kids to see.
We live far from town, so unfortunately no one would see our scarecrow.
This is brilliant, what a great idea 🙂 #stayclassymama
Popping in from #thatfridaylinky too 🙂 xx
That’s fantastic. We put bears in the window – it was quite cute. But this is next level!! #StayClassyMama
Most households have the bear in the window here too

What a fun idea. I like the fox one particularly… #stayclassymama
My husband’s home town do this with Guys for Bonfire Night as so do our local scouts and I love seeing the creativity. I wish we had something to entertain during lockdown rather than just the rainbows and bears publicised nationally. Thanks for linking up with #globalblogging
Perhaps you should suggest that residents in your neighbourhood could start making scarecrows
I love the creativity of design and individuality expressed in the scarecrows. Thanks for linking up with #stayclassymama
That’s brilliant – I love the various different designs of scarecrows, especially the last one. We had fun making scarecrows at a workshop on a local farm a few years back but I love the idea of a community scarecrow trail. #KidsandKreativity
Thanks Louise, sadly the scarecrows are slowly disappearing around here now
Our village is setting one of these up! I’m currently researching scarecrow inspiration!! #KidsandKreativity
This looks like fun, I love community events!
It is thanks for reading
One of our local villages does this each year, such a fun thing to do. Thanks for sharing at #KidsandKreativity!
Perhaps our village should make it an annual event too, thanks for stopping by, Kerry
Love all the different scarecrows along the trail. We’ve been doing a scarecrow hunt this week and the children have loved it 🙂 #adventurecalling
That’s great, Louise, thanks for sharing
Some fab scarecrows there. I think the fox is my favourite.
We recently visiting Lindisfarne and they had a Scarecrow Trail with entry raising funds for repairs at the church. We had a great time hunting them all out, and there were some brilliant ones there too.
Thank you for sharing with #AdventureCalling
That’s great, thanks for sharing
A village near us does a scarecrow festival and it’s always very popular. A great way to bring a place together and get everyone talking. Thank you for sharing #AdventureCalling
