Glass painting: my new hobby ) with one working hand)

As a stroke survivor, I have only one working hand( my right). With the winter months approaching, I was keen to find a hobby to fill my time.

Many years ago, before stroke, I made a Christmas plate decoration by glass painting here

This got me thinking, if I could attempt glass painting again:-

I bought some glass paint pens for around £10 ( as I thought that pens would be easier than paint pots).

I found a glass, downloaded a suitable stencil and started my new hobby.

It’s vital to wash the glass first in washing up liquid to remove any grease, then dry thoroughly.

I placed the stencil inside the glass fixing it in place with some blue tack.

I then rested it on my legs ( whilst sitting in my wheelchair) and painted the design.

After leaving it overnight to dry completely; I then put it on my dressing table to hold my make up brushes.

As I am delighted with the end result, I am going to do more glass painting as gifts for family and friends.

If I can manage glass painting with one hand, I’m sure others will be able to as well. Hopefully I will inspire more stroke survivors to follow my lead!

Of course, you don’t have to be a stroke survivor to enjoy glass painting, I think older children could do it too.

As always questions and commebts are welcome.

Until next time.

  1. Wow, what a journey you have walked. But, for me the best part of this post is picking up something that you loved and carried on. You are an inspiration, and this post will hopefully tell many other survivors that they too can do it! Thank you for sharing! #kcacols

  2. That looks really pretty and well done on finding away for you to enjoy this activity. Getting pens rather than paint is a really good idea.
Thanks for linking up with #pocolo

  3. What a great hobby to take it. It looks brilliant. My daughter loves doing things like this, I have actually just bought her a kit to do something simialr, but not with paint pens though. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS
