Current events have meant that due to schools having to close parents are needing to home school their children’
My children are grown now, so I don’t have personal experience of this, but this is how I would have dealt with it:-
Ensure that children get up at a reasonable time ( this is not a holiday) and make them get dressed before doing school work; they wouldn’t go to school in their pyjamas!
Have a routine in place to help with positive learning: Put the written routine in a place where everyone can see it – on the fridge door or kitchen notice board: Have a time slot for each subject ( English and maths are the most important) and have a set time for breaks for refreshments and lunch; so children know that they can’t stop for a bag of crisps whenever they feel like it, in my opinion, children work better when they know what is expected of them,
There are lots of help available on line; many celebrities have downloaded their specialist subjects, for example, Carol Vorderman has some maths lessons ( to help parents as well as children) and Joe Wicks has a P.E. session every day.
Go for a walk in the afternoon to get some fresh air and exercise; remember to social distance if you come across other families children may need reminding that they can’t run over to see friends.
Older children who usually attend secondary school are going to be more of a challenge than younger ones, try to stay calm; you can’t expel children from this school!
You are doing this to help your children to succeed: Stay calm and carry on.
I would like to thank my Facebook friends for allowing me to use their photos,
As always questions and comments are welcome and feel free to share on social media if you think others would benefit from reading this..
Until next time.

These are great tips. We are doing most of this at home right now. Only our schedule is written in a notebook instead of up on the fridge. #alittlebitofeverything
It must be difficult to cope with this situation and these hints will be of great help .
I’m in the same boat as you, mine are all grown up. I have 2 finishing diplomas, 3 now not revising for GCSE’s and I finishing the second year at Uni with online exams. There is no way I’ll be helping with any of that. But learning a little discipline and self motivation young pays off. #DreamTeam
My daughter is too young for school but I like the idea of sticking with a routine as you have suggested. I aim to do one focused activity with her each day i.e. baking or crafts etc. And we normally go out for up to an hours walk each day. We are hanging in there! I hope you are keeping well #DreamTeamLinky
We are also trying to stick to a routine. My teen would normally have a lesson plan in school so we have stuck to this as much as we can. We’re also doing the Joe Wicks PE lesson – it’s great fun! And my toddler joins in too which is hilarious. #StayClassyMama
All these posts are super helpful to so many people right now. Home education is not at all easy in my experience especially with older children #StayClassyMama
Some good tips here. The kids are having a break for Easter but we’ll be back on it from next week x #Stayclassymama
So every helpful tips. I homeschool normally and I know it’s hard for those who hadn’t planned to. A big adjustment. #stayclassymama
