How to celebrate an alternative Halloween, this year

Like most events this year, Halloween will have to be different this time, thanks to the covid19 pandemic.

I doubt that home owners will welcome children who want to put their hands into bowls of treats to their front doors in the current situation.

So how can we celebrate Halloween with our children in a safe way instead?

Like this:

Have a spooky piñata hung in the garden for children to bash.

Make your home into a haunted house with scary decorations.

Children can still dress up while you all sit down to watch frightening movies together; something like Monsters Inc. or the corpse bride- depending on the age of children, while eating some Halloween treats.

Create a spooky scavenger hunt inside or out , leaving clues, a trail of blood and spiders.

Read age appropriate ghost stories in the dark in front of the fire, or if the weather is dry, go into the garden and snuggle under blankets beside lit carved pumpkins and roast marshmallows on a fire pit or camping stove .

You could leave a box of sweets and some hand sanitiser on your doorstep in case any trick or treaters do happen to come along; watch them through the window to keep everyone safe.

  1. What a wonderful imagination you have to come up with such brilliant ideas to replace the normal Halloween activities. I really like the idea of the spooky piñata for them to bash. I can imagine children of all ages enjoying this.

  2. I love these creative ideas and the banana ghosts and cutie pumpkins are awesome! I love it when snacks are fun and healthy at the same time.

As a daddy to five, I appreciate the tips and creativity.

    1. I can’t take the credit for the snacks, I borrowed them from a friend, Jed, thanks for sharing your thoughts

  3. Yes I’m already thinking of ways that I can make Hallowe’en fun for our girls considering it will be so different this year. I think we will just have a little party amongst ourselves – as long as therre are treats they will be happy! I love the spooky bananas and mandarins, they look really great!! #dreamteam

  4. It’s definitely going to be different this Halloween! Last year we were enjoying all the spooks and sparkles at Disneyland Paris. The idea of a spooky piñata sounds like fun and perhaps a family party at home with loads of Halloween treats and music or movies will make up for all the lost bigger parties and get-togethers that we are used to. Thank you for joining us for the #DreamTeamLinky

  5. I am wondering whether to do an Easter egg hunt style activity with Halloween candy for my kids in the garden. Or maybe just dress up and go to my parents as they only live 2 streets away. Thanks for linking up with #parentpower
