When I was a child minder one of the most successful topics that I did with the children was on all about me:-
I made up a booklet for each child.
We started by looking at ourselves in a mirror and I asked what they saw ( I was hoping that they would notice different colours of eyes and hair and skin colouring in any multi cultural children)
One little boy told me that he could see a boy; I don’t think that he recognised the reflection as being himself.
I requested that parents send in photos of family members living at home, I then let the children take photos of each other using my camera ( under supervision) then we printed them off together
.
As I had a roll of wall paper I drew around a child and we labelled body parts before putting it on the playroom wall.
Some of the children drew a picture of themselves after looking in the mirror and others chose to draw another child.
Another day we discussed how families differ and shared books on step families and same sex parents
I helped each child to make a simple family tree of their parents, any siblings and 1 set of grandparents ( I felt that adding more would be confusing for children so young).
The children drew pictures of what they were hoping to be when they grew up: One child told me that she was going to have a baby when she was 15, as long as I would look after it and a boy asked if he could be a child minder just like me.
If you want to expand and make the project longer you could include any family pets and what parents do for a living or draw a picture of their house; the list could be endless!
Ifound this topic really easy as most children love to talk about themselves!
Another topic I covered was people who help us here
Hopefully this has given everyone enough inspiration to do a topic on this subject.
As always questions and comments are welcome.
Until next time.

Lovely idea, I can imagine little ones loving this 🙂 #dreamteam
Thanks Hannah
Wow what brilliant ideas in this blog , lots of unusual ideas.
I really like your wallpaper idea!
Lovely ideas – like the book too. When I was kid, we barely even mentioned divorce was a thing….so how much more difficult it must have been on children when it happened? The more diversity discussed the better.
What a lovely topic to cover. I also like the idea of asking little ones to look in the mirror before they draw themselves. It’s amazing what a difference this makes to the outcome. Thank you for joining us for the #DreamTeamLinky xx
That is a lovely idea. Thanks for being with us on the #DreamTeamLinky
This is a really good idea & a great lockdown activity too! #DreamTeamLinky
You’re right, kids do love talking about themselves! It’s a lovely idea and one that I think my 6 year old would love. Thank you for such a great suggestion! #globalblogging
I think the infant school uses something similar so am expecting to get one soon for Zach before he starts in September. Thanks for linking up with #stayclassymama
