Kate Levett children’s books review

Kate sent me 2 of her books:

A SPECIAL FAMILY CHRISTMAS;

This is a lovely book , which made me and the children who I shared the books with feel really Christmassy. We chatted about putting up our Christmas tree.

The book is written in a rhyming text, which, as my regular readers will know is my favourite in children’ literature. Because it makes the story more interesting and children can often predict the next word; setting a pattern for learning to read for themselves.

The story follows Santa as he delivers presents to a variety of different families:

A traditional family of 2 children with a mother and father, a family with a mum and a mummy , a household with twins,, a dad and a daddy family and another were Granma and grandpa are raising the children. As well as a single parent and multi curtail family.

I particularly love this element of the book because any children who come from a non traditional family will feel accepted.

Summer the girl who I was reading to told me that she has a friend with 2 mummies and that it doesn’t matter because the child is happy and loved.

A special family Christmas is written by Kate Levett and the wonderful, vibrant illustrations are by Maja Knychata.

The book retails at £8.99 and is recommended for children aged 3-11 years ( although I personally feel that a wider age range will love the book; I certainly did and younger children will enjoy looking at the illustrations and listening to the rhyming text).

THERE’S A BABY IN THE FAMILY;

Again this book is written in rhymming text.

The beautifully written story explains in a sensitive way the different reasons of how a family can welcome a new baby: Going through a pregnancy with the possibility oF IVF, adoption, surrogacy, blended families and being fostered.

Harley who helped with the review told me that his mum’s friend had a C-section when she had her baby.

I would like to thank Harley Evans and Summer Hull for allowing me to use their photos in this review.

Both children told me that they thought the books were very good.

Kate has again teamed up with illustrator Maja Knychala.

There’s a baby in the family also retails at £8.99 and is aimed at children aged 3_11 years.

Disclosure:

I was sent the books for the purpose of the review but all opinions are my own and the thoughts of Harley and Summer both aged 8years.

Kate is donating 20%of the book sales of each book to Kinship Carers UK.

i am highly recommending these books to all sorts of parents and carers everywhere..
