Although my favourite season of the year is summer, because I’m a sun worshiper; autumn is also enjoyable because summer can sometimes be a let down, weather wise ( this year was amazing) and in autumn when we expect the weather to start going downhill it can sometimes surprise us with warmish sunny days:
On such days children will enjoy a woodland walk crunching the fallen leaves underfoot.
Whilst in the woods children can be encouraged to search for conkers, acorns and pine cones to take home for later; take home a variety of dry leaves too for brass rubbing.
The children in my neighbourhood recently collected some conkers and brought them over to show us, My husband told them that he would thread them onto string so that they could play ‘conkers’.
They looked at him confused saying that they didn’t know how to play it: Conkers were banned from their school for health and safety reasons!
Anyway he threaded them onto string and the children tried to tie it around their necks to make a necklace: Eventually my husband and another neighbour played conkers to show the children; but they weren’t very impressed.
You could make up a woodland scavenger hunt for your children to make the walk more interesting.
Of course, everyone looks forward to the end of October for Halloween activities here
If the weather isn’t favourable do some indoor crafts and activities instead here
What are your favourite things to do with children in the autumn?
As always questions, comments and topic suggestions are welcome.
Until next time

I’ve been enjoying the many colours but not the rain! I’m hoping to spend time outside this half term and find some autumnal crafts. Thanks for linking up with #DreamTeam and please make sure you comment on all posts
Me too, Laura, thanks for sharing your thoughts
We always used to make sure we had Autumn walks in the park with lots of conkers and coloured leaves to bring home.
Sounds lovely, Rasie
Autumn with the warm colours and red leaves is one of the season I love the most to take photos of children! It’s like going on an adventure for them to find conkers and different leaves and you can get such lovely expressions! You can see as well the joy in the face of your girls here 🙂
That sounds lovely, thanks for sharing
Karen what great ideas. The kids look like they had a great time outdoors.
