My awesome autism

Nikki Saunders, the author of this wonderful children’s book is a mother of 2 children who have autism. She wrote the book as she struggled to find child friendly literature on the subject when her boys were diagnosed.

The book has a bright front cover in my favourite colour purple

.

From start to finish the book promotes autism as a positive thing.

I particularly like the first page which uses the word autism as an acumen relating to these positives.

My awesome autism has lovely illustrations throughout and explains autism in a simple way that children will understand. It explains how we are all different, in ways other than being autistic

.

This book would be fantastic for explaining about autism to children who have the condition and equally  to explain to those who are not affected by it, but want to understand more, if they know someone  who is.

Disclosure: I was sent the book for the purpose of this review, but all opinions are my own.

I love this book and therefore recommend it to everyone; parents, carers, grandparents and especially early years practitioners as Ofsted inspectors would be impressed by seeing it on a book shelf in settings.

The book is published by Austin Macauley. it retails at £9.99 and would be suitable for age 3 years plus.

Buy it here

As always questions and comments (which I love to read) are welcome.

Until next time.

  1. What a lovely book, I think we are aware of medical conditions in young and old but rarely get the chance to actually understand how it effects people . These children are special and the idea of the acumen is brilliant. As usual another interesting blog . I am sure the book will be very popular .

  2. This sounds like a fabulous book for helping to explain autism to children and I like that it highlights that we are all different and has such a positive focus to it. #KidsandKreativity

  3. What a lovely idea. Kids really would benefit from learning about autism and I am especially thinking about my daughters because right now they know very little. Awareness is key. I will definitely keep an eye out for books like this the next time we are in the library.Thank you for linking up to #globalblogging !
