Elsie has suggested today’s post.
I was very fortunate in that my 3 son’s were dry at night quite soon after getting rid of daytime nappies.
Some children may take a lot longer to get the hang of being dry at night though.
Signs that a child is ready to go to bed without the security of a nappy are that the evening and early morning nappy is dry or only slightly damp; proving that a child is able to hold onto their urine for several hours.
My top tips for sucessful night time potty training are:-
TAKE YOUR TIME:
It might take your child quite some time to stay dry all night, being patient about this, is key.
BE PREPARED FOR ACCIDENTS:
I used to put a plastic sheet over the mattress to protect it from any accidents; my youngest son, who rarely had an accident during the night, seemed to have one the same night as I had put clean bedding and pyjamas on
.
LIMIT BEDTIME DRINKS:
By keeping drinks to a minimum in the evenings, you are giving your child more of a chance of being successful at night.
ENCOURAGE THE USE OF A POTTY BEFORE GETTING INTO BED:
Make using the potty part of the bedtime routine, sitting on it while in the bathroom after cleaning teeth.

REWARD CHILDREN WHEN THEY DO WELL:
Children, especially toddlers, will respond well to rewards, whether this is verbal or otherwise

With time and patience children will eventually learn how to have a dry night without a nappy. If you are concerned about your child’s night time potty training speak to your health visitor or G.P. for advice.

I remember how important this milestone felt to me.when my kids were little. Wish I could go back and be a little more relaxed about it.
Thanks for your input, Michele
Like so many things all children are different and reach these milestones at different times. I also used to get my daughters to do a dream wee which helped. They might not appreciate my intervention now though they are 14 and 16! #KCACOLS
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences, Clare
I have a five year old and three year old twins. The five year old and one twin were dry at night within a couple of weeks of being dry during the day. The other twin has shown no interest whatsoever in toilet training, even when I’ve tried. And the one thing I’ve learned from the other two is that there’s no point doing it before they’re ready however old they are! #KCACOLS
That’s interesting, thanks for sharing, Helen
So glad to be past all that – can barely remember it anymore, which is funny. All those ‘milestones’ just fade away…#ParentPower
I know where you are coming from, Lydia, thanks for stopping by
