Non-cook playdough (which I made with one working hand)

My sister told me about this easy to make playdough recipe and as I have only one working hand, since stroke, I decided to have a go at making it from my wheelchair.

Ingredients:

2 cups of flour ( any will do, even the cheap value one)

half a cup of salt

3 tablespoons cooking oil

2 tablespoons of cream of tar-tar ( I had none so I used baking powder instead)

1 cup of boiling water with food colouring added, if desired

Method:

Combine all the dry ingrients in a mixing bowland make a well in the centre.

Add the oil, water and colouring.

By adding the food colouring to the water, it won’t stain hands and clothing.

Stir well to form a dough, then knead on a floured surface.

If kept in an airtight container the dough should keep for a week.

If the dough gets onto carpet and soft furnishing leave it to dry and simply vacuum it up

I managed to make the dough really easily, using my one cup device to boil the water.

Children could take part in making it, provided an adult adds the water.

By giving them a laminated recipe to follow, they can really get involved, if you talk about what each ingredient does to the process ( that will impress any Ofsted inspector!).

Playdough is a great sensory material and adding peppermint, lavender or other essence or glitter, rice. or porridge oats would enhance this.

My sister works with special needs children and as some of them don’t like touching new materials, she encourages this by having a dough disco. More to come on this next time,

As always questions and comments are welcome.

Until next time.
