North Devon sing and sign

I first heard of baby signing when I attended a workshop on the subject while I was working as a registered child minder.

So when I discovered that there is a local sing and sign group run by Elle, I was keen to find out more about it:

Babies will use all kinds of gestures and sounds as a natural way of learning to communicate.

Sing and sign helps to encourage these behaviours, with the aid of songs, including nursery rhymes

Each session is about 30 minutes long, including a coffee break for parents to meet others in similar situations as themselves.

The course covers over 100 different signs to help babies communicate with their parents and carers.

The classes which are relaxed and fun for both children and adults are just starting again, with fewer numbers due to the Covid19 restrictions.

Elle offers a choice of 3 different groups aimed at children aged 0-24 months, prices vary according to the class.

I wish that I had been aware of sing and sign when my children were tiny as they all had speech delay and being able to relate to me through baby signing would have saved many temper tantrums caused by the frustration of not always being understood.

My experience of helping and encouraging children to speak here

As always questions and comments are welcome.

Until next time.

  1. I took my daughters to sing and sign and we all loved it. It really helped with communication and I was so happy when we went out once when my daughter was 18 month old and she did the horse sign when we say one. #KCACOLS

  2. I love the idea of baby signing classes – I never did them with my twins as I didn’t feel confident enough managing both of them at a class when they were toddlers haha! #KCACOLS

  3. I’m also well past the baby stage of life now, but I remember teaching my kids some signs (particularly around food) when they were pre-talking tiny humans <3 It's nice that you're promoting it to your readers <3

Coming to you from the A Little Bit of Everything Link party.

    Have a fabulous day <3

    1. That’s great, Dana,I also worked at our local children’s centre, but they didn’t have this particular class

  4. I did baby signing with my eldest and she still knows some of the signs at eight-years-old. It definitely helped in those easily years #KCACOLS

  5. We’ve done baby (and toddler) signing with all three of our children and it’s been brilliant. Jessica was quite slow to start speaking but could communicate very well with signing so it made a big difference to her as a toddler. We still use the signs with Sophie and Thomas – they can be quite useful for communicating across a room or playground! #KidsandKreativity
