Pilton green man festival

The Pilton green man festival this year was on Saturday 21 July ( it is always on a Saturday in July)

The green man festival is a charity event which benefits the community of Pilton, Barnstaple, which is where I grew up and went to school.

Pilton street, which is the high street of the borough of Pilton is closed to traffic for the event and stalls are set up to raise money for charity.

The street is decorated with bunting and flags, the whole event has a real feel good factor about it.

The parade begins in Barnstaple , were children and adults are invited to dress up and join in the fun by following the green man  who leads the parade to Pilton.

The green man is an ancient symbol of nature and fertility that dates back for centuries.

There is plently of fun and entertainment for everyone, including face painting, bouncy castles and live music.

If you are visiting Barnstaple next July be sure to give the green man a visit.

I would like to thank Tina Day, Michelle Clayton and Jeremy Lamprell for allowing me to use their photographs in this post.

As always questions/comments are welcome.

Until next time

Karen

  9. Wow – it looks like everyone had a great time! We sometimes find these things difficult with all the noise and colour it can be a bit overwhelming for the kids but when it’s something regular this can help them to get used to it. Thanks for sharing! #KidsandKreativity
