I had never heard of this, until my sister, who works with special needs children, told me about it.
Basically a playdough disco is a fun activity that uses playdough to encourage the movement of the hand and fingers to develop muscle control and fine motor skills more here
It also helps to improve hand-to-eye co-ordination, self esteem and gross motor skills here
The playdough disco teaches children to squeeze, roll and pinch the dough, which can be particularly helpful for any children who don’t enjoy touching a new substance ( for example, children who have any special needs).
There are several you tube videos that explain the playdough disco.
There is even a dough disco song, but I’m sure practitioners and parents could adapt it to any music that their child likes, or why not make up your own playdough disco song together?
Homemade playdough recipe here
As always questions and comments are welcome.
Until next time.

Dough Disco is brilliant. I was introduced to it by a Nursery Plus practitioner but it can be used by all children for the reasons you gave.
Absolutly, Melanie, thanks for taking the time to read and leave your comment
OTs do this too. And hiding beads in the playdoh or putty that you have to dig out. #MischiefandMemories
I wasn’t aware of this, thanks for educating me further, Lydia
This sounds super cool and going to combine it with making some play doh too! I’m off to YouTube to watch some videos on it! #MischiefandMemories
That’s great, hope you enjoy it
Nice! Just proves the simple joys are often teaching us at the same time.
Absolutely, thanks for stopping by with your comment
Playdough is such a great sensory activity for children and adults! I like to hide toys in it or use to practise fine motor skills. Thanks for linking up with #MischiefAndMemories
That’s a great idea thanks for sharing,Laura
We use playdough quite a bit to help my daughter strengthen her muscles and aid her pincer grip #MischiefandMemories
That’s great, thanks for telling me
Ah I see! It’s specific actions to music… like squeezing the playdough, or rolling it. This is so clever! It’s probably quite therapeutic too. Thank you for sharing such a fab idea over on #MischiefandMemories
That’s it exactly, Annette, thanks for having me as always
