Review of Bangon books plus a discount for my readers

Bangon books got in touch to ask if I would like to review one of their personalised children’s adventure books. As I am passionate about children’s literature after years of working as a registered child minder I agreed.

I chose unicorn Oo (as a Christmas present for my granddaughter, Katlyn) who is 9.

.

Bangon books asked a few questions in order to personalise the book: the child’s name and whether it was for a boy or a girl, next I was asked to chose a character with the same colour hair as the child the book was for.

I could then add a special message  for the child, making the book a real keepsake and something that will be treasured for many years to come.

I received an email confirming the the book was being processed and a week later a further message  telling me that it was in the post, a few days later it arrived as promised.

I was extremely pleased when I opened the package  to see the book. The front cover is brightly coloured and has a soft feel that children will find inviting.

Making a book look appealing to children is key to getting their attention, especially important to entice reluctant readers.

On the first page is the special message  that I requested , it was cleverly written on a bottle of magic wishes that I know my granddaughter will love.

Turning the page I was greeted by the photo that I had sent with the order. Any child (and parent) will be thrilled to see the book is personalised with a photo as well as having the child’s name on every page.

Basically the story says that Katlyn looks in the mirror  (to see her own reflection- the photo) and then as if by magic  she is transported into the story character  who has her name.

The book is full of wonderful, colourful illustrations  drawn by Hannah Walton.

Simon Davidson has written the adventure story which contains descriptive words  that I can see will encourage children  to use similar words in their own writing of stories and school work.

On the adventure Katlyn meets several friends, including a unicorn,a mermaid and a red fiery dragon, the story promotes friendship, helping others and explains forgiveness.

.

The text is printed in clear lowercase letters  which most children will be able to read for themselves. The book will entice children to want to have a try at reading by themselves because the adventure and illustrations  make you want to discover what is going to happen next. The song that unicorn Oo sings several times: clip clop oo! clipperty clop oo! clip clop! oo clipperty clop oo! can also be sang to the child’s own made up tune.

Bangon books recommend that their books are suitable for ages 2-10 years.

Children who are too young to read themselves will equally enjoy the book being read to them by an adult , some of the illustrations can be used to promote early learning  by pointing to objects or asking the child to find things, the page containing Katlyn’s photo would be particularly good for this as it is of a bathroom containing items that young children will be familiar with.

Unicorn Oo retails for £17.99 it can be purchased along with other titles from www.bangonbooks.co.uk

  1. I love personlised books, anything that helps children engage more with the story. Thanks for linking up to #KidsandKreativity, hope to see you back next time.
