Review of Forelock books

Forelock books sent the following:-

THE HORSE WITH BIG HAIR:

This colourful children’s picture book is written by Sally Burrell, it tells the tale of Buckle, a horse with a messy mane and tail. The other horses and children laugh at him because of this, but Buckle doesn’t mind because his owner loves him just as he is.

The book could be used  to teach children not to worry about what other people think.

Sally has wonderful illustrations  on every page.

The horse with big hair is recommended for children aged 3 years plus and retails for £5.99.

A YEAR AT THE YARD:

This is the best thing since Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty.

.

The story is told through the eyes of the horses and other animals in the book, it is full of humour and also teaches would be equestrian owners  things such as how a horse is measured to giving tips on how to keep flies at bay during the summer months.

This hardback book is written by Ken Lake and Faye Hobson has cleverly illustrated it.

The book has 162 wonderful pages.

A year at the yard retails at £9.99 and is recommended for ages 6 years plus. As a horse lover myself, I adore both of these books I would have enjoyed reading a year at the yard when I was a child, I actually found it hard to put down even now as a middle aged woman!

Disclosure: I was sent the books for the purpose of the review, but all opinions are my own.

Only other horse lovers will understand what I mean when I say that I could almost smell that amazing smell of a horse while reading these books that is why I am recommending them both.

Both books can be purchased    here

As always questions and comments are welcome.

Until next time.

  1. Lovely books I can understand how you feel Karen when reading them as you have such a great love of horses. I like the way you have brough Black Beauty into the blog. I love horses but have never been brave enough to actually ride one. I am sure these books will be brilliant.

  2. I can see my niece loving these books. I think the equestrian one is great, and would be useful as an introduction to looking after a horse for any child who desperately wants one.

  3. These books sound lovely! I like the message behind The horse with the big hair. It sounds like it touches on children’s social issues and mental health in such a positive way. Thanks for joining us for the #DreamTeam

  4. These both sound like great books for children who love horses. I like the sound of a year at the yard 🙂 #KidsandKreativity

  5. I love how books can transport you and it sounds like you are transported whilst reading these books due to your love of horses. They are the most beautiful animal aren’t they! #ABloggingGoodTime

  6. It looks beautiful but I know looking at it that my daughter is not mature enough for something like it yet. She has just turned five so she would definitely need another year or so. Very interesting though #KCACOLS

    1. The horse with big hair is recommended for children aged 3 plus, so that should be suitable for your daughter, thanks for sharing your thoughts x

  9. The horse with big hair would have been perfect for us when the boy started school. He had longer hair at the time (his choice) and an older boy at breakfast club made a comment about being a girl. He decided he wanted his hair short, which we did.
A year later, he has grown his hair again, but now has much more confidence to say he can be however he wants to.

Thanks for saying hello at #AdventureCalling

  10. As a pony mad girl I absolutely devoured horse books, and I’m pretty sure I would love these too. I think my boys would love the story about Buckle, and those illustrations look gorgeous. Thank you for sharing with us #AdventureCalling
