Mrs Wordsmith sent volumes 1 and 2 of these children’s sticker books, which also help with children learning to read.
Each of the books has 10 pages of bright, colourful round stickers; which as a former early years practitioner, I know will appeal to children.
The books have a space for each sticker with the word that is being taught written in bold letters.
The 100 words that each book aim to teach are sight words (these are words that often have irregular spelling making them difficult for children to work out). I remember my son learning to read and one of the first words he recognised was the word suddenly because of the way it is spelt.
Sight words are also the words which occur multiple times in the literature that children may be reading.
Inside the books the reader is introduced to the Scooties;the characters who feature throughout the books.
Page 6 starts to show the sight words. The unique thing about this is beside each word there is a QR code which can be scanned using the camera on a mobile phone, this device allows the user to hear how the word is pronounced, which is perfect for anyone using English as a second language
.
The most effective way to use the books is to point to a word and ask the child what it says; if he doesn’t know – tell him then flick through to find the corresponding sticker, get the child to stick it in then ask the word again.
Continue doing this with all the stickers, calmly correcting any mistakes.
While looking for each sticker the child will have that word ‘ stored in her mind’ helping to remember and learn it.
When all of the stickers have been matched and put in place, the books can be looked at together until the child is fluent in reading each word.
Disclosure:I was sent the books for the purpose of the review but all opinions are my own.
I totally understand how these books would work helping children with learning sight words that will enhance their reading ability as they develop reading skills, that’s why I recommend them to parents and all early years settings

They look really good and useful, my daughter is 6 and it astonishes me how much of her reading is recognising words as opposed to putting sounds together. Will definitely look out for these!
These look great! 😀
Seems great to bring on holiday as well? Or travels? To keep busy during the boring times hehe. #KCACOLS
I hadn’t thought of that concept, yes would be great for a long car journey, Thanks for sharing your thoughts x

My daughter could benefit from these so I will keep a look out. She is five and in the process of learning to read. They look very interesting, I like the idea that they help with words that are difficult to pronounce phonetically #KCACOLS
These look perfect for helping with tricky words that need to be known from sight. I like the way they give sentence examples as well to give context. Thanks for linking up with #globalblogging
I think anything that encourages a child to interact with reading material is a great idea.

These look really useful. Our 4 year old is starting school in September and is working on phonics at nursery at the minute and it will be reading next! #kcacols
What a good way of helping children to learn sight words. I might have to get this for Sophie – she loves sticker books and this would be brilliant for helping reinforce some of the tricky words in her mind. #KidsandKreativity
