This year when a foreign holiday is looking challenging, mini trips to local attractions may be a good alternative.
When it is warm and the sun ‘has it’s hat on’ a trip to the beach is a great option.
Things to do at the beach with children here
Why not have a go at fishing, or let the children try crabbing?
Visit a local attraction or beauty spot, I am fortunate enough to live in North Devon where there are both coastal and countryside beauty spots, plus many family orinated attractions to visit.
North Devon and many other places in Great Britain have safe water to enjoy swimming. or try water sports, such as paddle boarding, surfing and kayaking, to name bit a few.
.
As this year we will be celebrating the Olympics ( a year late) why not encourage the family to take up a new sport, inspired by watching the professional athletes?
Go bird watching or lookout for wildlife.
I always put a coat or a jumper and lots of sun screen in the car to prepare for any weather conditions when I did days out with children.
Ane after a day trip to Heddon’s mouth I also kept some spare children’s clothes in the car too!
More about that visit here
I would like to thank Melanie Cullen and Ann Kenny for letting me use their photos in this post.
Please share any other ideas for a sucessful summer staycation.
As always questions, comments and topic suggestions are very welcome.
Until next time
Karen

We’re very lucky to have the beach on our doorstep which has been a godsend since the pandemic started! #mischiefandmemories
You are lucky, thanks for sharing
After lockdown, just going out anywhere is exciting – even if it’s a day trip! #MischiefandMemories
With you on that, Lydia
Amazing! I know nothing about traveling all over the country, what a wonderful looking place to explore.
It is, unfortunately we don’t want too many tourists this year for obvious reasons
I wish we lived closer to the beach, the closest one is about 2 hours away. We are very lucky to have lots of woodland around us though so we can always get out and about for some fresh air.

Woodland is great for children Thanks for sharing your experience
My boys could literally spend weeks crabbing they just find it fascinating. Some great ideas there #MischiefAndMemories
Thank you, yes, my boys loved crabbing too
What gorgeous photos! Some lovely ideas to keep in mind for our staycation. I’ve just found out that the beach we usually visit has a fab spot for looking for sharks teeth that we’ve not been to yet. Thank you for joining us for #mischiefandmemories xx
I can’t take the credit for the photos, Annette, they were taken by a friend, shark teeth hunting sounds good, thanks for your comments and for having me as a part of the linky as always
We have no plans for a summer holiday for the second year running (nothing to do with covid, we have an elderly dog we cannot leave) but are hoping for some days out once my son’s self isolation ends! Thanks for linking up with #MischiefAndMemories
Hopefully we will get some more decent weather for your days out, Laura and thanks for having me as a part of your linky party
