When my son was around 18 months I took him to a toddler group session, one December Santa came for a visit all the parents sat waiting with their children on their laps, we kept telling them, “Santa will be here soon.” expecting our children to be as excited as we all were.
As Santa walked in the child nearest to the door let out an ear piecing scream then like a Mexican wave every child in the room copied, it was so noisy no one could hear themselves speak the children didn’t stop crying until Santa left, then they all happily waved goodbye to him.
A few years later we took our son to visit Santa in the local shopping centre. Adam was going through a stage of making up jokes that only he and us, as his family understood and thought were funny.
This particular father Christmas didn’t have a sense of humour.
Adam went up to him took his gift and then said, “Hello father Cripmam bag of chips,”
The fact that father Christmas ( or father Cripman as my son called him) didn’t find the joke funny made it even more hilarious to my husband and I. We found it so funny that we laughed until we almost cried, father Christmas and his elf helper just looked at us which made it even more funny!
When I was working as a child minder and ran a drop-in for child minders and their children I arranged for a friend to come dressed as Santa, he walked in wearing his costume and had a bunch of carrots in his hand, he explained to the children that he had just finished feeding his reindeer. The children wanted to know where the reindeer were, so he said they were on the roof having a rest, the children insisted that they wanted to go outside to see them as it was raining heavily we managed to distract them with the presents father Christmas had in his sack.
When I was a child, my sisters and I were beginning to suspect that there wasn’t really a father Christmas so one Christmas eve night we decided to stay wake hoping to catch our parents out, we started singing carols to keep ourselves awake. Our parents then said that Santa wouldn’t come if we didn’t go to sleep. so we had to admit defeat.
My young cousin was so afraid of father Christmas when he visited at our grandmother’s house on Christmas afternoon that she pulled his beard off, when she saw that it was her daddy dressed up she was even more afraid
.
A child once told me that she knew Santa was real as he had left clumps of mud from his boots on the hall carpet.
My middle son once had a job of being Santa in a local store, one of the children that I child minded went to visit him with his daddy. My son recognised the boy so started mentioning things in his life, of course the boy was delighted. later the father told me, “can you thank your son for making his visit to see Santa extra special, ” he said that it had made Christmas more magical for him too.
Please share experiences of the funny side of Christmas with children.
As always questions/comments are welcome.
Until next time.

What delightful stories about coming into contact with Father Christmas, I should imagine any child meeting him for first time would find it quite a scary experience .
It’s true Pearl. He’s quite an intimidating character for young children. Playing a store Santa must be one of the more challenging jobs there is. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
This is a lovely post and made me smile, thanks for sharing X #mixitup
Such good stories. I dare not take out LO to see Santa yet as she is so not trusting of people in costumes. She yells so loudly. I do have fond memories of my Dad playing Santa for the local church. We had to obviously keep quiet for the younger children (I was 12) but my Dad was about 5 foot 4 and 9 stone. He needed a lot of padding! #GlobalBlogging
Lovely stories here – thanks for sharing on #thesatsesh xx
Thanks for the giggles. Visiting you from the mix it up linky. laurensparks.net

#thesatsesh ooooh Karen you’ve open up my memory – when i was 4yrs old I went to my dads work (family) party…father C was ill and my dad filled in at the last moment. I was quickly whisked out of the room when I declared in a loud voice “my dads got that watch”
Happy times
Love this, our schools vicar is father christmas at our school and all the older ones find it so funny xx #Blogstravaganza
Thanks for sharing these delightful stories, Karen. I miss having young believers in the house during this magical season. I hope you and your family have a lovely holiday. Thank you for linking up on the #BloggingGrandmothers End of Year Link Party!
I wasn’t frightened of Santa, but I can definitely see how intimidating he is to so many young kids! #GlobalBlogging
These are lovely stories, Christmas is so magical with children! My boys decided that the ‘real’ Santa has a proper beard so spend time inspecting the beard before they engage in any conversation – we’ve made sure that we look carefully before booking so that we only visit the real Santa rather than anyone dressed up in acrylic 😉 thanks for sharing your experiences with #Blogstravaganza 🙂
Linking up again with #thatFridayLinky , we did take our little girl to see Santa. She didn’t speak to him and looked very distrustful through the whole thing!
