I must admit that I love the sun and so have been enjoying the glorious weather that we have had this week ;however I have heard a few children crying,( what I would call a tired cry) through my open windows.
Children do not always cope well in hot weather, they get tired quicker, through lack of sleep and the draining effect that the extreme heat can have on their bodies.
These are my tips for keeping children cool:-
It may seem obvious but dress children in appropriate clothing, cotton fabrics are the coolest and wearing a wide brimmed sun hat that shades the face and back of the neck will help to keep the heat down on young skin.
.
Children may not have much of an appetite during hot weather, but they may be tempted by a cool smoothie or home made ice lolly made from fruit juice. Giving children fruit smoothies or milk shakes is a good way of ensuring they get their 5 a day too!
My biggest tip for keeping children cool at night is to put their favourite bedtime soft toy in the fridge; Put it in a plastic bag when they are not looking then pop it in the fridge for a few hours. Remove the toy from the bag before giving to the child at bedtime.
Another hack that works well is to put a bowl of ice in front of an electric fan so that the cold air is blown around the room.Keeping the curtains drawn all day in bedrooms will keep the sun out of rooms leaving them cooler at night.
Make use of the paddling pool or hot tub ( using cool water) during the day and as children love any excuse to get wet let them have water fights with the hose pipe, water pistols or empty washing up bottles to squirt at each other.
Remember to keep a close watch on children when they are near water and always ensure that they are wearing plenty of a high factor sun screen.
Please share any other btips for keeping children cool.
As always questions and comments are welcome.
Until next time.

Thanks for your feedback, Lydia
Excellent tip about putting their favourite toy in the fridge- I would never have thought of that! We put cold water in hot water bottles to cool the bed done, works great on swollen adult feet too!

Great tips! Thank you so much for sharing. These are great things to keep in mind for summer colds too! I was thinking about posting about summer colds and how to manage fevers in warm weather. I love this! Let me know if youd be interested in guest posting some time, I have a family blog as well and would love some fresh views. 😊
I would be interested in writing a guest post for you, Lyndsey, what did you have in mind?
