Why become a child minder?

I was a registered child minder for 14 years and I can honestly say  that I loved every single moment of it.

I only gave up because ill health forced me to.

Being a child minder has lots of advantages: I started this particular career because it meant that I was able to earn some much needed money while also taking care of my youngest son who was around a year old at the time ( I didn’t want to send him to day care) it also provided him with some playmates while his brothers were at school, being a child minder meant that I could take and collect my older children to school and I was around for them during the school holidays, I was also able to attend school events such as sport’s day

and the annul Nativity plays.

It meant taking the children in my care along too, but this just added to the fun.

Although my sons wouldn’t necessarily agree with me, I believe that they benefited from their mum being a child minder. Especially my youngest who joined in with all the educational activities  that I planned on a daily basis. as he grew a little older  he sometimes had a friend over during the school holidays ( I had to ensure that this didn’t impact on the number of children that I was registered to have) it meant that he wasn’t always surrounded by little minded children.

Occasionally he would say that he didn’t like the child minding children coming to his house every day, so I said that I could go out to work and he could go to a child minder while I was there, he soon decided that me being a child minder was his best option! ( he isn’t keen on small children now he is in his mid 20’s) but my older children have no such issues, my middle son has given me 3 wonderful grandchildren.

Being a registered child minder was the best career choice for me and my family, had things been different I would still be doing it

If you think that being a child minder could be for you then contact Pacey or your local authority to find out more, you will be glad you did.

As always questions, comments and topic suggestions are welcome.

Until next time.

  1. I wanted to be a nursery nurse at one point and loved the idea of looking after children. However with three under three I know how stressful it can be having a handful of kids of similar ages!
Thank you for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you back next week!

    1. I loved having 3 children under the age of 3, it was hard work at times, but I would give anything to be able to do it again, thanks for your feedback x

  2. I can understand your son having moments of not enjoying a house full of other children but as you explained the benefits outweighed the negatives. I did consider becoming a childminder until I realised I am not that keen on other children ;-/ #bloggerclubuk

  3. It’s such a good choice for flexible working and perfect to be able to work around the little ones while not missing out on things #BloggerClubUK

  4. The only thing I didn’t like was the lack of pay. Like teachers, the pay is just so low and children are our most valuable things in the world. So backwards! #GlobalBlogging

    1. I actually earned a really good wage, during the school holidays when I had extra children, I was bringing in over £20 an hour, if you only look after 1 child. then yes the money is poor, but because I was full most of the time, the income was great, it was not easy having a house full, but I always thought the more the merrier! Thanks for your thoughts x
