Black Beauty;children’s book review

Anyone, young or old, who love horses; as much as I do, will be instantly drawn towards this book by the stunning front cover

.

Fans of all things equine, will of course be familiar with Anna Sewell’s classic story of Black Beauty: Leonora Teale has been extremely clever in writing an updated version of this book to enable a whole new generation to fall in love with it.

the book has 358 pages and 33 pencil illustrations drawn beautifully by Maria Grishkevich.

The first illustration is of the tack worn by a horse in order to pull a carriage: When I was a horse mad girl learning the names of tack was something that I enjoyed, so I know that children today will be pleased to see this addition to the book.

Leonora has also included a detailed account about the original author- Anna Sewell and information about animal welfare.

Throughout the text there are sensitive adaptions making difficult, old fashioned words and phrases easier to understand.

.

Disclosure: I was gifted the book for the purpose of the review, but all opinions are my own.

I absolutely adore this book and so am highly recommending it to everyone.

Black Beauty retails at £8.06 and would be enjoyed by a wide age range, including adults.

As always questions and comments are welcome.

Until next time.

  1. I remember Black Beauty too! And we also used to watch the series. Do you remember the theme song? This updated version of the book looks gorgeous, and definitely something I’d look at getting my daughter. Thank you for sharing with the #DreamTeam x

    1. Yes, Annette, I do remember the theme tune and the beautiful black horse galloping across the field, thanks for leaving your thoughts
