Early learning summer activities from ichild

ichild have a wide selection of children’s activities that can be downloaded. Here are just a sample of the ones with a spring/summer theme:-

Missing numbers

This sheet has 16 rabbit outlines – some are numbered and a few have numbers missing meaning that children could be encouraged to count out loud and say the missing numbers. As a parent or early years educator I would, personally, write in the number after the child had told me what it should be and then ask him to try to copy it underneath mine.

It could then be taken one step further by asking the child to colour No.3 in red, No.6 in blue and so on learning colour recognition as well as number.

Add the lambs

This is the ideal next step from missing numbers( early years practitioners could actually write this on their observation form to impress Ofsted) children can now begin to do some basic addition ( maths early learning goal)

Big and small

This will help children with the concept of different sizes( maths development).

There are 2 different downloads:- one of flowers and bees

and the other buckets and spades. Both give good clear examples of big and small (bigger/est, smaller/est)plus the bucket and spade could also be used to demonstrate in front of and behind learning placement and the flower and bees mention making honey (understanding the world). Children could then be asked to draw a line between the pictures (introducing hand to eye co-ordination).

Hanging parrot craft

This effective printout explains simply how to make this. Children can colour and decorate their own parrot or use the one that is already coloured,

because the materials needed are items that most people will already have there is no added cost to this

Summer lollipop stick craft

has several ideas for using lollipop sticks for art and craft activities.

ichild also have word search and crossword puzzles

for slightly older children ( ideal for child minders for after school children or during the school holidays).

Visit ichild at www.ichild.co.uk

Many of the activities can be downloaded for free, or for a reasonable fee you can upgrade to access even more resources. I know that if the activities from ichild had been available when I was working as a busy child minder I would have found them invaluable.

As always comments/questions are welcome and please share this post on social media.

Until next time

Karen

  1. I love these ideas. I’m sure my daughter would too. I’m trying to get into the habit of using more educational resources as we prepare for her starting school in September so these seem great. x #FamilyFunLinky

  2. Ooh, I’ll investigate some of these. The Big One will love them. And one day maybe the Little One will show sufficient attention to try focusing on this sort of thing. Will certainly try before he hits school in Sept!

  3. Love these ideas. I organise crafts for a local playgroup and think it would be great to do something a bit more educational so thanks for sharing #coolmumclub

  4. I love the simplicity of these – my girls would love them. Must sort out a printer! Once the office is finished soon, that’s definitely on the agenda…
