Is it beneficial to give your child minding business a name?

When I first registered as a child minder I decided that I wanted a name for my business ( other than just Karen’s child minding) to make me appear more professional.

My husband suggested the name Little treasures; so I added quality to that and became Little treasures quality child minding.

I must say that I was often busy with a waiting list: Whether that was because of the name I wouldn’t like to say. Sometimes parents would phone to enquire about my business and thought that I was a nursery setting rather than a child minder( probably because of the little treasures name) but I soon put them right on that.

I was also horrified to hear a news report about a nursery that was miles away from me, but was called Little treasures that had benn abusing the children in their care.

Thankfully this had no impact on my business as people understood that the businesses were totally unrelated.

Years later after I was forced to give up my beloved career due to health issues, one of the children that I used to mind told me when I saw him out with his mum that a girl who had just started secondary school with him had said to him, “You were one of Karen’s kids weren’t you?” I think that Karen’s kids would have been a great name for my business if only I had thought of it.

Other names for child minding settings that I came across were:-

Natural start ( because that’s what she wanted the children to have), Woodland Tots ( because she lived in Woodland close, Kiddiwinks, little scribbler’s and my favourite for the wrong reason was chrysalis child minding ( because the practitioner had a vision of the children blossoming into beautiful butterflies.

I however mispronounced the word and referred to her business as clitoris child minding; needless to say that particular business owner wasn’t impressed with me that day!

Do you have a name for your child minding business and does it make you stand out amongst others? Please share any thoughts and experiences.

As always questions and comments are welcome.

Until next time.

    1. Thanks, Paula, yes it is, actually I was coming home in my wheelchair a few weeks ago when a man who was down a hole digging asked me if I was Karen Dennis when I said that I was and who was he, he jumped out and told me that he was a boy that I used to look after, it really made my day

  1. I’m.’Sam’s little treasures childminding’ but I’m retrospect I should have xalled.ot ‘Sams house’ because that’s what all the children say.
Whether it’s made an impact to work I couldn’t say!
