Understanding the world;early years activities from ichild

DAYS OF THE WEEK:

Colour the letters of the days of the week, then stick onto thin card to make flashcards.

There are also large A4 individual days of the week downloads that can be used as a display around settings.

PEOPLE WHO HELP US:

This is my favourite of the activities, because ichild have covered a large selection of people in our society who help us; doctor, dentist, optician, nurse, paramedic , post man and woman, firefighter, teacher, bus driver and even a farmer : Under each picture is a brief explanation of how these people help us.

There is a blank download available for children to add and draw their own thoughts about people who help us.

MY SPECIAL PLACES:

There are several different areas of Great Britain available: I have the South West because that’s where I live.

ichild have chosen their special places from each area for practitioners to discuss with their children.

Again there is the option of using a blank page for children to add in their own special places: Perfect for opening up a discussion on places ypu have visited together.

Places I took children here

All of the above can be downloaded from ichild

here

I wish that ichild had been around when I was working as a registered child minder, I would have made great uses of their resoures.

As always questions and comments are welcome.

Until next time

  1. Once again, how lovely to see our resources out in the real world. And thank you for such lovely words. It is so clear to see that you were a wonderful childminder.
Very best wishes – as always – Cecilia (Editor, iChild)

    1. You are welcome, Cecilia, I did enjoy every minute of my child minding career, and was gutted when I was forced to give up, due to my health issues

  2. I think this is a fab resource for introducing a range of topics to young children ut which are crucial to their understanding of the world. Thanks for linking up with #DreamTeam
